From the pages of my notebooks - Ideas that got the chop.

Design

April 7th, 2008

Just an idea I had. I’m not sure how I feel about this or about anything I do for that matter. So While trying to explain that very thing to myself I came up with this:

Design is ergonomic function & usability. Anything else is style.

Children’s Book

April 3rd, 2008

This project is now 5 years old or more. I haven’t touched it in 3/4 years and yet I am still really excited by it.
I wrote a children’s story about a long time ago. It featured these two characters – a Chish and a Ficken. It also featured the fella below them – a king.
I got put off finishing the project by hearing about the hoops you have to jump through to get published, how little of your own product will be used, how they don’t like people to illustrate their own stuff. Basically the list goes on ad nauseum and yet I still can’t totally let go.

Second Mystery Set of Photos

April 3rd, 2008

These relate to a man and a car. The Car is a Standard Vanguard which was produced in England, but also went to Australia and India. The model is Phase 1 of which 175,000 were made between 1947-1953

I have no idea who the man is. Picture 2 shows some Indian looking gents ferrying the vehicle across a body of water. Picture 3 shows a large town in a heavily forested area. The plants look to be rainforesty (yes, that’s a real word).

I came by these the same way as the previous post.Car 01

Boats

My grandfather gave me a bunch of really ancient cameras. Aside from his interesting method of gifting them to me (he died, I liked them, my Granny didn’t) this image set came with them on glass slides. I think they are scenes of Dublin as I can see the Gasometer in the distance. Judging by the masted ships they must have been taken around the turn of the twentieth century. I know there was a fleet of seven or eight hooker style ships (picture 3) in the family at the time. Who knows though? It could be anywhere.

I have no idea who in my family would ever have been near any territory requiring an early icebreaker.

After the icebreaker earlier – then this. I have no idea what these are all about.

Ronan

A graphic designer, who has little spare time but uses it cycling, taking photos, drawing, being a dad, talking shite. A list which is of course in no particular order (so as not to offend anyone)
Incidentally this is an aside from A Worthy Cause which is Lovely Ronan's Nom de Plume.
